Laredo Boxers Fight For Justice

"I've waited long enough and there is no justice. I did my part putting on a good show and sell out. He hasn't put in his part," says Mandy Fuentes.

Mandy Fuentes has entertained boxing fans across south Texas performing as Laredo's only female professional boxer.

In January Fuentes agreed to fight in a boxing event organized by boxing promoter Hernan Ferreyro.

Fuentes says four months later she and other fighters are still waiting to get paid for their services.

When asked about the contact between the promoter and the fighters since the January event, Fuentes said the correspondance was limited and distant.

Johnny Cruz also faught in the January boxing event and says he was written a check which had insufficient funds.

Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz says he hopes to get justice for Laredo's professional boxers, but sometimes those who write hot checks are hard to find.

Alaniz says they live very elusive lifestyles, but as long as the fighters provide evidence for the hot checks the DA's office will be able to fight for them.

After several hours of phone calls Pro8News finally got ahold of boxing promoter Hernan Ferreyro. He says he accepts no responsibility for not paying the boxers and he blames the delay in payment on his bond company (International Fidelity Insurance Company).
